Changing Your MultiFactor Authentication Method for Microsoft Accounts

Summary

How to change your MFA for Microsoft applications to Microsoft Authenticator.

Body

Overview

In order to further secure your FalconNet account, Cedar Crest has begun enrolling accounts into FalconNet Multifactor Authentication for Office 365.  Multifactor authentication requires that you know your username, your password, and verify your login via another method.

Once your account has been enrolled, you still have to configure your account for access via a secondary method of authentication.  Once you are enrolled, and MFA is turned on for your account, you will be prompted for multifactor authentication in each application, on each device, every 45 days.

We strongly recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator App instead of SMS/Text Messaging whenever possible.

Multifactor Authentication currently impacts the following systems:

  • Office 365 including:
    Outlook (Email)
    Teams
    Stream
    OneDrive
    OneNote
    Tasks
    Planner
    Bookings (Configuration only)
    Sharepoint
    Forms
...and other related Office 365 resources.
  • MyCedarCrest authentication
  • IT Support Center
  • Cedar Crest Online (Canvas)
  • ...and more to come.

Additional systems will be added periodically.

Changing Your MFA Method for Microsoft Accounts

You can set a default authentication method for your account.  This is for your convenience where the default method will automatically be used and you will not have to manually select a method when prompted.

  1. Log into FalconLink with your FalconNet Username and password, then click on Microsoft Office to log in to office.
  2. Next, Go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and click "Update Info" under "Security info"

  3. Click "Change" next to "Default sign-in method"

  4. Click "App based authentication - notification" and then "Confirm"

  5. The new method will now be your default. Each time you sign in, Microsoft will use this method.
