Overview

This article provides instructions for using the instructor stations, projectors, computers, and audiovisual (AV) equipment in Alumnae Hall.

Rooms covered:

  • Room 13 – Art Therapy Classroom

  • Auditorium

Equipment and controls vary by room. Locate your classroom below and follow the corresponding instructions.

Room 13 – Art Therapy Classroom

Turn On the Projector

  1. Press ON in the upper-left corner of the control panel above the instructor laptop.

  2. Allow approximately one minute for the projector to display an image.

Display the Instructor Laptop

  1. Turn on the laptop using the power button in the upper-right corner of the keyboard.

  2. Press HDMI on the control panel to display the instructor laptop.

Connect Your Own Laptop

  1. Connect the hanging HDMI cable to your laptop.

  2. Press LAPTOP on the control panel.

Use the DVD/Blu-ray Player

  1. Turn on the player using its power button or the Denon remote.

  2. Press BLU-Ray on the control panel.

Adjust the Volume

Use the up and down arrows on the control panel.

Room 202

Turn On the Projector

  1. Press ON in the upper-left corner of the control panel above the laptop.

  2. Allow approximately one minute for the projector to start.

Display the Instructor Laptop

  1. Turn on the instructor laptop using the power button in the upper-right corner of the keyboard.

  2. Press HDMI on the control panel.

Connect Your Own Laptop

Two connection types are available:

  • HDMI: Connect the HDMI cable and press HDMI on the control panel.

  • VGA: Connect the VGA cable and press VGA on the control panel.

Use the DVD/Blu-ray Player

  1. Turn on the player using its power button or the Denon remote.

  2. Press BLU-Ray on the control panel.

Adjust the Volume

Use the up and down arrows on the control panel.

Room 211

Room 211 uses an Extron control system.

Turn On the Projector and Screen

  1. Press Display ON on the Extron controller.

  2. The button will flash while the projector starts.

  3. Move the switch labeled Screen to the down position to lower the projection screen.

Display the Classroom Computer

  1. Turn on the computer tower and monitor.

  2. Press PC on the Extron controller.

Connect Your Own Laptop

  1. Locate the HDMI cable on the podium near the monitor.

  2. Connect it to your laptop.

  3. Press LAPTOP on the controller.

Use the Blu-ray Player

Press Blu-Ray on the Extron controller to select the player.

Adjust the Volume

Use the volume knob on the front-left panel of the podium.

Shut Down the System

  1. Press Display OFF on the podium first.

  2. Log off and power off the classroom computer if you used it.

Room 212

Room 212 uses a Device Switch Panel to control the projector and connected equipment.

Turn On the Projector

  1. Pull down the projection screen.

  2. Locate the Device Switch Panel.

  3. Press the projector ON button.

  4. Allow approximately 90 seconds for the projector to warm up.

Display the Classroom Computer

  1. Turn on the classroom PC.

  2. Press PC on the Device Switch Panel.

Connect Your Own Laptop

  1. Locate the laptop connection to the left of the monitor.

  2. Connect your laptop.

  3. Press LAPTOP on the Device Switch Panel.

Use the DVD/Blu-ray Player

  1. Turn on the DVD/Blu-ray player.

  2. Insert your disc.

  3. Press DVD or Blu-Ray on the Device Switch Panel. Either selection can be used.

  4. Use the DVD/Blu-ray remote to control playback and switch between DVD and Blu-ray.

Important: The playback controls on the Device Switch Panel do not work. Use the player remote.

Use the Document Camera

  1. Turn on the document camera using the power switch in the upper-right corner.

  2. Open the lamps and raise the camera arm using the release at its base.

  3. Press Doc Cam on the Device Switch Panel.

To display a transparency: Press the camera's Lamp button until the base light turns on.

To display an object or document: Press Lamp until the upper lights turn on.

The Lamp button cycles through base lighting, upper lighting, and lights off.

Adjust the Volume

Use the volume knob on the Device Switch Panel.

Shut Down the System

  1. Press the projector OFF button.

  2. Select PC on the Device Switch Panel and shut down the computer normally.

  3. Turn off any additional equipment used.

  4. Return the projection screen to its original position.

Room 214

Turn On the Projector

  1. Press ON on the podium display panel.

  2. Allow approximately one minute for the projector to start.

  3. Pull down the projection screen.

Display the Classroom Computer

  1. Log in to the classroom computer.

  2. If the computer image does not appear, press PC on the podium display panel.

Use the Blu-ray Player

  1. Turn on the Blu-ray player.

  2. Press BLU-RAY on the display panel.

  3. Insert the disc and press Play on the Blu-ray remote.

  4. When finished, eject the disc and turn off the player.

Adjust the Volume

Use the volume controls on the podium display panel.

Shut Down the System

  1. Press OFF on the podium display panel.

  2. Shut down the classroom computer.

Little Theater

The Little Theater uses a touchscreen control system.

Lower the Projection Screen

  1. Locate the white control box above the podium.

  2. Use the up and down arrows to position the screen.

Important: Do not walk onto the stage while the projection screen is lowered. Raise the screen before entering the stage area to prevent damage.

Turn On the System

  1. Turn on the podium laptop and sign in.

  2. Press the system ON button on the touchscreen.

  3. Press the projector ON button on the left side of the touchscreen.

The podium laptop is the default display source.

Connect Your Own Laptop

  1. Locate the HDMI cable hanging from the left-back side of the wall rack, identified with black tape.

  2. Connect the cable to your laptop.

  3. Press Rack HDMI on the touchscreen.

Use the DVD/Blu-ray Player

  1. Insert the disc into the player.

  2. Select Rack DVD along the top of the touchscreen.

  3. Use the playback controls that appear on the touchscreen.

Display the Camera

  1. Select Camera along the top of the touchscreen.

  2. Use the touchscreen camera controls to adjust the displayed image.

Adjust the Volume

Use the volume controls on the right side of the touchscreen.

Tip: Applications such as YouTube have their own volume controls. Check the application's volume if the sound is too low.

Shut Down the System

  1. Shut down the podium laptop.

  2. Press OFF in the bottom-right corner of the touchscreen to turn off the equipment.

  3. Raise the projection screen when finished.

Auditorium

The Auditorium uses a touchscreen system with separate projector and equipment controls.

Lower the Projection Screen

  1. Locate the white screen control box to the right of the computer, behind the touchscreen.

  2. Press the down arrow to lower the screen.

  3. You may need to press the button more than once.

Turn On the System and Projector

  1. Press the system power button on the touchscreen and wait for the system to load.

  2. Press ON under Display on the left side of the touchscreen.

  3. Allow approximately 10 seconds for the projector to start.

The projector will automatically display the Stage PC.

Display the Classroom Computer

  1. Select Stage PC along the top of the touchscreen.

  2. The selected source may appear as Stage Rack PC.

Connect Your Own Laptop

  1. Connect the HDMI cable located to the right of the computer monitor.

  2. Press Stage HDMI on the touchscreen.

Use the DVD/Blu-ray Player

  1. Select Stage DVD along the top of the touchscreen.

  2. Use the player controls displayed on the touchscreen.

Display the Auditorium Camera

  1. Select PTZ Camera along the top of the touchscreen.

  2. Use the touchscreen controls to operate the camera at the back of the auditorium.

Present a PowerPoint

  1. Open your PowerPoint presentation on the Stage PC.

  2. Select Slide Show, then From Beginning or From Current Slide.

  3. Make sure the projector is on and Stage PC is selected.

  4. Use the PowerPoint remote to advance slides. The remote works from the front of the stage.

Adjust the Volume

Use the up and down arrows on the right side of the touchscreen.

Shut Down the System

  1. Press System Off in the bottom-right corner of the touchscreen.

  2. If the projector remains on, press OFF under Display on the left side.

  3. Shut down the computer manually.

  4. Raise the projection screen using the white control box.

PowerPoint Display Troubleshooting

The following display instructions are documented for Room 13 and may be useful when troubleshooting a Windows instructor computer in other rooms.

Switch Between Presenter View and Duplicate Display

If PowerPoint shows your notes on the laptop and your slides on the projector, but you want both screens to show the same image:

  1. Hold down the Windows key and press P.

  2. Select Duplicate.

  3. Both displays should now show the same image.

To exit a slideshow, press Esc.

If the projector shows a blue screen after closing PowerPoint, press Windows + P and select Duplicate to restore the mirrored display.
