Graduating or Leaving as a Student
If you are graduating, withdrawing, or otherwise leaving Cedar Crest College, review your College accounts before your access ends.
Before Your Account Is Deactivated
- Save personal files: Download any personal documents, assignments, or other files you are permitted to retain from OneDrive and other College services.
- Review your College email: Save important personal correspondence or information you may need after leaving.
- Update outside accounts: If you use your Cedar Crest email address for personal services, subscriptions, job applications, or other external accounts, change those accounts to a personal email address.
- Review Canvas materials: Download course materials or submitted work you are permitted to keep while you still have access.
- Review Microsoft 365 applications: Files and services associated with your College account may no longer be available after deactivation.
Microsoft 365 After Graduation
Your Cedar Crest College Microsoft 365 account is provided through the College's institutional licensing.
When your account access ends, you will lose access to:
- Outlook email and your College mailbox.
- OneDrive files and cloud storage.
- Microsoft Teams and other collaboration services.
- College-licensed Microsoft 365 desktop applications.
If you want to continue using Microsoft 365 after leaving the College, you may need a separate personal Microsoft account and an appropriate subscription or license.
Leaving Employment at Cedar Crest College
Faculty and staff accounts are provided for College business and are subject to institutional account management and information security policies.
When employment ends, access to College systems may be disabled as part of the separation process.
Before Your Last Day
- Review personal accounts that use your College email address and update them to a personal email address where appropriate.
- Remove personal files from College storage only when permitted by College policy.
- Ensure College business documents are stored in approved shared locations rather than exclusively in your personal OneDrive.
- Transfer responsibility for shared documents, Teams resources, and other College-related information to the appropriate department or supervisor.
- Follow College procedures for returning equipment and other technology resources.
Important: College business records, departmental files, and other institutional information must remain with Cedar Crest College. Do not transfer College-owned or confidential information to personal accounts or storage.
What Happens to My Email and OneDrive Files?
College Email
When your account is disabled, you will no longer be able to sign in to your College mailbox.
Messages sent to your College email address may no longer be delivered, and your mailbox may eventually be deleted in accordance with College retention policies.
Do not rely on your College email address for important personal communications after your affiliation ends.
OneDrive
OneDrive files are associated with your College Microsoft 365 account.
When your account is disabled or removed, you may lose access to these files.
Before leaving:
- Sign in to Microsoft 365.
- Open OneDrive.
- Review your stored documents and folders.
- Download personal files that you are authorized to retain.
- Ensure College-owned documents are transferred or stored according to departmental procedures.
Note: Sharing a OneDrive file with another person does not guarantee that the file will remain available after the original account is deleted.
Can I Recover My Account or Files After Deactivation?
Account restoration and file recovery are not guaranteed.
Recovery depends on the account's status, the amount of time since deactivation, applicable retention policies, and whether the information is still available.
Once an account or its associated data has been permanently deleted, recovery may not be possible.
For this reason, we strongly recommend reviewing your accounts and completing any permitted file transfers before your access ends.
