Using Two Microsoft 365 Accounts on the Same Computer
If you have more than one Microsoft 365 account, such as a Cedar Crest account and an account from another organization, you can access both without repeatedly signing in and out.
Option 1: Use a Private Browsing Window
This is the quickest way to access a second account temporarily.
- Open Outlook in your regular browser window using your first Microsoft 365 account.
- Open a private browsing window:
- Microsoft Edge: Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an InPrivate window.
- Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an Incognito window.
- In the private window, go to https://outlook.office.com.
- Sign in using your second Microsoft 365 account.
- You can now work with both accounts in separate browser windows.
Important: Private browsing sessions are temporary. When you close all private browsing windows, you will generally need to sign in again the next time you open one.
Option 2: Use Separate Browser Profiles
If you regularly access two Microsoft 365 accounts, separate browser profiles may be more convenient.
Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the profile icon near the upper-right corner.
- Select Set up new personal profile or Add profile, depending on your browser version.
- Follow the prompts to create a separate browser profile.
- Open https://outlook.office.com in the new profile.
- Sign in with your second Microsoft 365 account.
You can now use each browser profile for a different account.
Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome.
- Click the profile icon near the upper-right corner.
- Select Add Chrome profile.
- Follow the prompts to create a new profile.
- Open https://outlook.office.com.
- Sign in using your second Microsoft 365 account.
Tip: Browser profiles are especially useful when you regularly work with multiple Microsoft 365 organizations because each profile maintains its own browser session.
Note: Browser profiles are not a security boundary between people sharing a computer. Do not use this method to store multiple users' accounts on a shared or public computer.
Signing Out of Outlook
When finished using Outlook, especially on a shared computer:
- Click your profile picture or initials in the upper-right corner of Outlook.
- Select Sign out.
- Close the browser window.
Important: If you are using a public or shared computer, do not save your password or choose to stay signed in. Use a private browsing window whenever possible.
Troubleshooting Common Sign-In Issues
Outlook automatically opens the wrong account
- Click your profile picture and sign out.
- Close the browser and try signing in again.
- Alternatively, use a private browsing window to sign in with the correct account.
You are repeatedly asked to sign in
- Verify that you are using the correct Cedar Crest email address.
- Make sure your browser is updated.
- Try opening Outlook in a private browsing window.
- If the issue continues, contact the IT Help Desk.
You cannot complete MFA
- Confirm that your registered authentication method is available.
- If you have replaced your phone or lost access to your authentication method, contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
Outlook is not loading correctly
- Refresh the browser page.
- Try another supported browser.
- Disable browser extensions temporarily if they are interfering with Outlook.
- Check whether other Microsoft 365 services are working.
