List of Suggested AntiVirus and AntiMalware Products for Personal Devices

Overview

The Office of Information Technology requires that any device used to access the College network or technology resources have an actively updating AntiVirus/AntiMalware product installed on their device.  All College-owned computers are protected by Microsoft's Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection.  Personal computers will need to download and install  This article is meant to provide guidance to help with meeting this requirement.

Please note: simply having an AntiVirus/AntiMalware product installed does not meet the requirement.  It must actively update its database.

Suggestions for AntiVirus and AntiMalware Products

This is a list of suggested products that will meet or exceed the requirements for our Acceptable Use and Remote Network Connection policies.  Neither Cedar Crest College nor the Office of Information Technology can provide technical support for these products on your personal device.

Computers/Laptops:

  • Avast (https://www.avast.com): Free AntiVirus/AntiMalware protection for Windows, macOS
    Also includes a paid product that offers extended protection if desired.  The paid product is not required.
  • AVG (https://www.avg.com): Free AntiVirus/AntiMalware protection for Windows, macOS
    Also includes a paid product that offers extended protection if desired.  The paid product is not required.

Mobile Devices (Smartphones, Tablets, etc):
