Overview
When using applications through FalconApps, you may occasionally need to move files between your Cedar Crest College H: drive, OneDrive, and websites such as Canvas.
For these file transfers, use Microsoft Edge within FalconApps. Because Edge is running within the FalconApps environment, it can access files stored on your H: drive.
This article covers three common tasks:
- Download a file from OneDrive to your H: drive
- Upload a file from your H: drive to OneDrive
- Upload a file from your H: drive to Canvas
Important: Make sure you are using Microsoft Edge within FalconApps, not the web browser running directly on your computer.
For general information about storing and accessing files in FalconApps, see [FalconApps: Opening and Saving Files].
Before Your First File Transfer
The first time you use Microsoft Edge in FalconApps, configure Edge to ask where downloaded files should be saved.
- Open Microsoft Edge from FalconApps.
- Click the three dots (...) in the upper-right corner and select Settings.
- Select Downloads from the left-hand menu.
- Turn on Ask me what to do with each download or Ask where to save each file before downloading. The wording may vary depending on the version of Microsoft Edge.
- Close the Settings tab.
You should only need to change this setting once.
Download a File from OneDrive to Your H: Drive
Use these steps when a file is stored in OneDrive and you need to open it in a FalconApps application.
- Open Microsoft Edge within FalconApps.
- Go to FalconLink and sign in if prompted.
- Open Microsoft OneDrive.
- Locate the file you want to use.
- Click the three dots (...) next to the file and select Download.
- When the Save As window appears, select your H: drive.
- Select the folder where you want to store the file and click Save.
The file is now available on your H: drive.
Return to your FalconApps application and use File > Open to browse to your H: drive and open the file.
Upload a File from Your H: Drive to OneDrive
Use these steps when you have saved work to your H: drive and want to move it to OneDrive.
- Make sure your work is saved in your FalconApps application.
- Open Microsoft Edge within FalconApps.
- Go to FalconLink and open Microsoft OneDrive.
- Browse to the OneDrive folder where you want to store the file.
- Select Add new > Files upload or Upload > Files, depending on the version of OneDrive.
- When the file selection window appears, browse to your H: drive.
- Locate and select your file.
- Click Open.
Wait for OneDrive to finish uploading the file before closing the browser or ending your FalconApps session.
Once the upload is complete, the file will be available in OneDrive outside of FalconApps.
Upload a File from Your H: Drive to Canvas
Use these steps when you have saved a file to your H: drive and need to submit it for a Canvas assignment.
- Make sure your work is saved in your FalconApps application.
- Open Microsoft Edge within FalconApps.
- Go to FalconLink.
- Open Cedar Crest Online (Canvas).
- Navigate to your course and open the assignment.
- Begin the assignment submission and select the option to upload a file.
- When prompted to select a file, browse to your H: drive.
- Locate and select the file you want to submit.
- Complete the upload and submit your assignment.
Before leaving Canvas, verify that your submission was successfully received.
Which Direction Is My File Going?
If your file is currently in OneDrive and you need to work with it in FalconApps:
OneDrive → H: Drive → FalconApps Application
If you created or saved a file in FalconApps and want to keep it in OneDrive:
FalconApps Application → H: Drive → OneDrive
If you created or saved a file in FalconApps and need to submit it to Canvas:
FalconApps Application → H: Drive → Canvas
Important File-Saving Tips
Save your work regularly while using FalconApps.
If you use your H: drive while working, consider uploading important files to OneDrive when you are finished. OneDrive makes your files easier to access from your own computer and other devices.
Before ending your FalconApps session, make sure:
- Your work has been saved.
- Any files you want in OneDrive have finished uploading.
- Any Canvas assignments have been successfully submitted.
