Overview
When using an application through FalconApps, you may need to open files stored on your computer or save your work so that you can access it outside of FalconApps.
Depending on your computer and the application you are using, you may be able to work directly with files stored on your computer. If local file access is not available or does not work properly, you can use your Cedar Crest College H: drive as an alternate storage location.
This article explains the different options for opening and saving files while using FalconApps.
Option 1: Open and Save Files on Your Computer
Whenever possible, you can use a folder on your computer to open and save files while working in FalconApps.
When you select Open, Save, or Save As from a FalconApps application, look for the drives or folders from your computer in the file selection window.
Depending on your computer and FalconApps configuration, these may appear as redirected drives or folders.
macOS
When setting up FalconApps through Windows App, you can select a folder on your Mac that you want to make available to FalconApps.
If you have not already configured a shared folder:
- Open Windows App on your Mac.
- Open Settings for your FalconApps connection.
- Locate the folder or device redirection settings.
- Select Change Folder.
- Choose the folder on your Mac that you want to make available to FalconApps, such as Documents.
Once configured, you can browse to this folder when opening or saving files from a FalconApps application.

Windows
When using FalconApps on a Windows computer, your local drives may be available within the FalconApps application.
When you select Open, Save, or Save As, look for your computer or redirected drives in the file selection window.
If your local files or drives are not available, use your H: drive instead.

Option 2: Use Your H: Drive
If you cannot access files on your computer from FalconApps, or an application has difficulty opening or saving files locally, use your Cedar Crest College H: drive.
Your H: drive is College network storage that is accessible from applications running in FalconApps.
Save a File to Your H: Drive
From the FalconApps application:
- Select File > Save As.
- Browse to your H: drive.
- Select the folder where you want to store the file.
- Enter a file name.
- Click Save.
The file will remain on your H: drive and can be accessed the next time you use FalconApps.
Open a File from Your H: Drive
From the FalconApps application:
- Select File > Open.
- Browse to your H: drive.
- Locate the file you want to use.
- Select the file and click Open.
Moving Files Between OneDrive and Your H: Drive
Your OneDrive and H: drive are separate storage locations.
If you have a file in OneDrive that you need to use in a FalconApps application, you can download it to your H: drive using Microsoft Edge within FalconApps.
You can also use Edge within FalconApps to upload files from your H: drive back to OneDrive.
For instructions, see:
[FalconApps: Using OneDrive, Canvas, and the H: Drive]
Uploading Files to Canvas
If a file is saved on your H: drive and you need to submit it to Canvas, you can upload the file using Microsoft Edge within FalconApps.

Which Storage Option Should I Use?
Use a folder on your computer when FalconApps can access it and the application works correctly with local files.
Use your H: drive when:
- Your local files or folders are not available in FalconApps.
- An application has trouble opening or saving files directly to your computer.
- You need a temporary storage location accessible to multiple FalconApps applications.
Use OneDrive when you want your files stored in the cloud and easily accessible from other computers or devices.
If you use the H: drive while working in FalconApps, consider moving important files to OneDrive when you are finished so they are easily accessible outside of FalconApps.
Application-Specific Information
Some applications may have additional requirements for opening or saving files.
