Overview
FalconNet is the wireless network available to Cedar Crest College students, faculty, and staff throughout campus.
Follow these instructions to connect your Windows 11 computer to FalconNet. Once connected, your computer should automatically reconnect whenever you are on campus and the network is available.
Before You Begin
Make sure that:
- You are on the Cedar Crest College campus.
- Your computer's Wi-Fi is turned on.
- You have your Cedar Crest College FalconNet username and password.
Note: If you recently changed your FalconNet password, you may need to remove the saved wireless connection and reconnect using your new password.
Connect to FalconNet
- Click the Network/Wi-Fi icon on the right side of the Windows taskbar, next to the date and time.
- Click the arrow next to Wi-Fi to display available wireless networks.
- Select FalconNet from the list.
- Check Connect automatically so your computer will reconnect whenever FalconNet is available.
- Click Connect.
- When prompted, enter your Cedar Crest College credentials:
- Username: Your Cedar Crest email address.
- Password: Your FalconNet password.
- Click OK or Connect.
Having trouble signing in? If your full Cedar Crest email address does not work, try entering only your FalconNet username (the portion before @cedarcrest.edu).
- If Windows displays a security certificate confirmation, verify that the certificate information matches the network details provided by Cedar Crest IT before continuing. If you cannot verify the certificate, do not accept it; contact IT Support for assistance.
- Once connected, FalconNet should display Connected in your Wi-Fi network list.
Your computer should now automatically connect to FalconNet whenever you are on campus.
Troubleshoot Connection Problems
If your computer cannot connect to FalconNet, repeatedly asks for your password, or displays an authentication error, try the following steps.
Step 1: Check Your Wi-Fi Connection
- Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.
- Confirm that Airplane mode is turned off.
- Make sure you are within range of the FalconNet wireless network.
- Turn Wi-Fi off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
- Try connecting to FalconNet again.
Step 2: Forget FalconNet and Reconnect
If you previously connected to FalconNet, Windows may have saved an outdated password or wireless configuration.
Forgetting the network removes the saved settings so you can establish a new connection.
- Click Start and select Settings.
- Select Network & internet.
- Click Wi-Fi.
- Select Manage known networks.
- Find FalconNet in the list.
- Click Forget.
After forgetting the network:
- Click the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar.
- Display the available wireless networks.
- Select FalconNet.
- Click Connect.
- Enter your current FalconNet credentials.
- Follow the connection prompts, verifying any certificate information before accepting it.
Once connected, open a web browser and confirm that you can access the internet.
Step 3: Restart Your Computer
If you are still unable to connect:
- Save your work and close any open applications.
- Click Start → Power → Restart.
- After Windows restarts, reconnect to FalconNet.
Restarting your computer can resolve temporary wireless adapter or network connection problems.
Step 4: Check for Other Connection Issues
If FalconNet still does not connect, consider the following:
- Incorrect username or password: Make sure you are using your current FalconNet credentials.
- Recently changed password: Forget FalconNet and reconnect with your new password.
- Weak wireless signal: Move to another campus location and try connecting again.
- Certificate warning: Do not bypass an unexpected certificate warning or disable certificate validation.
- Other wireless networks also fail: Your computer may have a wireless adapter or Windows configuration issue.
If the problem continues, IT Support can help determine whether the issue is related to your device, account, or the campus wireless network.
