Connect to eduroam Wi-Fi

What Is eduroam?

eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, worldwide wireless network service that allows students, faculty, and staff from participating colleges and universities to access Wi-Fi when visiting other participating institutions.

Instead of requesting guest Wi-Fi access, eligible visitors can connect using credentials provided by their home institution.

For example, a Cedar Crest College student visiting another participating college may be able to connect to its eduroam wireless network using their Cedar Crest credentials.

Likewise, students, faculty, and staff visiting Cedar Crest from participating institutions can connect to our eduroam network using their own institution's credentials.

Which Wireless Network Should I Use?

Who You Are Recommended Network
Cedar Crest students, faculty, and staff on the Cedar Crest campus FalconNet
Cedar Crest students, faculty, and staff visiting another participating institution eduroam
Visitors from other eduroam-participating institutions at Cedar Crest eduroam
Other campus visitors without participating institutional credentials Cedar Crest guest Wi-Fi

Important: Cedar Crest's eduroam network is intended for visitors from other participating institutions. Cedar Crest students and employees should continue using FalconNet while on campus.

Connect to eduroam at Another Institution

If you are a Cedar Crest student, faculty member, or employee visiting a participating institution:

  1. Confirm that the institution participates in eduroam.
  2. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone, tablet, or computer.
  3. Select eduroam from the available wireless networks.
  4. If prompted, enter your institutional eduroam credentials.
  5. Complete any required certificate or security verification.
  6. Once connected, open a web browser to confirm that you have internet access.

Username: Your eduroam username may require your full institutional identity, including @cedarcrest.edu, rather than only your FalconNet username.

Password: Use the password associated with your Cedar Crest account, as required by the College's eduroam configuration.

If your device requests additional security settings, use the configuration instructions provided by Cedar Crest IT rather than guessing or disabling certificate validation.

Configure eduroam Securely

Some devices require additional configuration before they can connect to eduroam.

The eduroam service provides tools that participating institutions can use to simplify this process.

Option 1: geteduroam

The geteduroam application can configure supported devices using your home institution's wireless settings.

  1. Visit geteduroam.org.
  2. Download the application for your device.
  3. Open the application.
  4. Search for and select your home institution.
  5. Follow the instructions to configure your connection.
  6. Sign in using the credentials required by your institution.
  7. Connect to eduroam when visiting a participating location.

Note: Availability depends on whether your institution provides a compatible configuration through the service.

Option 2: eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT)

Some institutions provide a wireless configuration profile through the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool.

  1. Visit cat.eduroam.org.
  2. Select your home institution.
  3. Download the appropriate configuration profile for your device.
  4. Follow the installation instructions.
  5. Connect to eduroam using your institutional credentials.

If your institution is not listed or does not provide a configuration profile, contact your home institution's IT department for instructions.

Security Reminder: Do not disable certificate verification or accept an unexpected authentication certificate to connect to eduroam.

Troubleshoot eduroam Connection Problems

Incorrect Username or Password

  • Confirm that you are using credentials from your home institution.
  • Check whether your institution requires a full username that includes its domain.
  • Make sure your password is current.
  • If you recently changed your password, remove the saved eduroam connection and configure it again.

Unable to Connect

  1. Confirm Wi-Fi is enabled.
  2. Make sure you are within range of an eduroam network.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Check whether your home institution requires a configuration profile or application.
  5. Verify that the wireless security settings match your institution's instructions.

Do not bypass certificate validation to resolve an authentication error.

Connected but No Internet

  1. Disconnect from eduroam and reconnect.
  2. Open a web browser and try another website.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Try connecting from another location.
