Fixing VPN Error: Connection Failed - Gateway Cedar Crest: The server certificate is invalid. (Windows)

You can fix this error with the GlobalProtect VPN connection by following the following instructions:

  1. Remember: to connect to the VPN you must be connected to the internet with an off-campus connection.
  2. Next, navigate to the GlobalProtect client in your usual way, and start the program in the way you are most comfortable with.  Do not click Connect.
  3. Now, click on the Gear icon in the upper-right-hand corner, then click Settings.

  4. In GlobalProtect settings, you will see the connection (vpn.cedarcrest.edu) and the user account you sign into the VPN with, that is connected to the certificate that is causing you a headache.  Click Sign Out.

  5. You will be asked if you would like to clear the saved credentials, click OK.

  6. Once you have cleared the credentials, return to the GlobalProtect Connection screen as you normally would do. Click Connect.

  7. After you click Connect, the GlobalProtect client will connect to the Cedar Crest network, then prompt you to enter your username and password.  Enter your FalconNet username (first part of your email address) and password, then click Sign In.

  8. After you click Sign In, the VPN client will show you this screen to accept the certificate to your computer.  Click Continue.

  9. You will now be signed into the VPN.  If your VPN client is not up-to-date, you will be prompted to install the update.  This can take 5-10 minutes to complete, or longer, depending on your internet connection.  If you chose to do this now, it will download the client, upgrade your client, and then you can reconnect.  Remember, you may be able to defer this update for a short-period of time, but deferring it too long will require you to manually uninstall and reinstall the VPN client.  If you need to do that, click here for instructions on reinstalling the VPN client on Windows.

If this does not resolve your issue, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the client.
