Technology Systems Maintenance Policy

Purpose

Cedar Crest College recognizes the importance of diligence when it comes to keeping systems maintained, secured, and reliable.  To address the maintenance of systems on campus, this policy is drafted to guide the campus.  This policy applies to all technology driven systems on-campus.

Policy Statement

Responsibility

The responsibility for maintaining the servers, computers, and network infrastructure that is important to the college resides within the Office of Information Technology.  An important aspect of this is to establish and maintain a regular schedule of maintenance on all systems.  This schedule is maintained and updated on the IT User Support Center, and accessible by clicking here.

The following guidelines will be followed:

  • Each Windows-based server will be updated via a rotating schedule each Tuesday evening between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
  • All Windows-based servers will be updated and patched according to Microsoft's schedule, with a minimum of being updated bi-annually.
  • All desktop and laptop computers on campus (Windows and MacOS) are set to update according to their manufacturer's schedule, via an internal automatic delivery mechanism.  The individual operating the computer is responsible for completing the updates.
  • Campus computer labs are updated at the end of each semester.
  • Campus network infrastructure is evaluated annually, and updated as needed.
