Uploading Files into Canvas using the FalconApps Server for MacOS (SPSS only)

Overview

The FalconApps server is an application delivery server that allows you to access software applications that are owned by the college and housed on-campus - from anywhere and on both Windows and Apple computers.

SPSS being used with MacOS has a bug in relation to producing output files. To get around the bug you will need to use your H: drive.  Once you save on the H: drive, you will then need to access it via Microsoft Edge and upload it from the FalconApps server.

Here is how you can accomplish that:

Saving Files to H: and Uploading in Edge from FalconApps

  1. In your application, click File --> Save As...

  2. In the Save As dialog box, click the down arrow and select the H: drive from the list.

  3. This will save the file to your network drive, H:.  Next, you will need to upload this into Canvas (or any other site you need it).  Exit the application you are in, and then open Edge from the application list located in Microsoft Remote Desktop in the FalconApps Server Workspace.

  4. Edge may ask you to go through the initial configuration process, click through the screens.  Once through those screens, type in https://falconlink.cedarcrest.edu, login with your Falconnet username and password, then click on Canvas to access your courses.

Note: you must do this through the Edge icon in FalconApps Remote Workspace so that you have access to your H: drive.
If you do this from your local computer, you will not have access to the file(s) on your H: drive from within Edge.

  5. Next, navigate to where you need to go in Cedar Crest Online (Canvas), and click the button to submit the assignment.
  6. You will be given an upload dialog box that looks similar to the one below.  Scroll down until you see your H:drive, locate the file your previously saved, and click Open to upload it to Canvas.

  7. Complete submitting your assignment as you normally would.
