Using Your Laptop On and Off Campus (Log In) Instructions

Overview

In the past, laptops have sometimes come with pre-configured local accounts to use while off-campus.  With the new Windows 10 laptops, this is no longer the case and a few steps must be taken to ensure that these laptops will work for everyone reliably.

Laptop Log in and Security Instructions

  1. When you receive your laptop, you must log in with your FalconNet credentials while on-campus before taking it off-campus.  This process creates your profile on the laptop and allows Windows to store your log in information locally.
  2. After you have logged in while on-campus, you should restart the laptop and log in once more before leaving campus.
  3. Logging in to laptops with local, generic user accounts is no longer a supported activity.
  4. Once you have done this, you will be able to log in to the laptop anywhere with your FalconNet credentials -- even if you are not connected to any networks at all.
  5. You will need to bring your laptop to campus at least once every 30 days, restart the laptop and log in with your FalconNet credentials.  This will ensure that the security tokens stay up-to-date and working.  Failure to do this will result in the laptop not allowing you to log in when not on campus.
