MacOS - Reset Printing System to resolve FalconPrint Issues

Reset Printing System / Re-add the Driver

Note:

  • Reset Printing System should only be used as a "last resort" for troubleshooting a printing issue. When multiple printer drivers are installed in the computer, performing the following will remove them ALL from the Printer List. (You cannot choose which one to delete or which one to keep.) All installed printers will need to be re-added.
  • Reset Printing System is available only in versions 10.4.x and later of the Mac OS X operating system
  • Login with a user name with the Computer administrator account (Not your FalconNet account) to delete the MP drivers. Regarding Administrator users, please refer to the Mac OS X owner's manual.

Reset Printing System:

10.8x, and 10.9.x

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  2. Choose Print & Scan (10.8) or Printers & Scanners (10.9) from the View menu.

  3. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. OK the reset.

As an alternative (10.8), if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

10.5.x, 10.6.x and 10.7.x

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  2. Choose Print & Fax (or Print & Scan) from the View menu.

  3. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. OK the reset. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."

As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

10.4.x

Re-Add Printer

Before adding the printer, disconnect and reconnect to the FalconNet Wireless Network.

Next, setup printing for FalconPrint.

Directions:

For general directions from PaperCut including video, click HERE.

  2. Click the  icon under the Printers List.

The Add dialog is displayed. It displays a list of all of the discovered printers on the network.

  3. Select the FalconPrint. The Name, Location, and Use is displayed.

  4. At the bottom of the dialog box, check that Use is set to Secure AirPrint.

  5. If Secure AirPrint isn't displayed:

    1. Close the Add dialog.

    2. Disconnect from the network, then reconnect to it again.

    3. Check if you can see Secure AirPrint now. If you can't, contact the helpdesk at helpdesk@cedarcrest.edu.

  6. Click Add.

  7. Print your document. When prompted, enter your FalconNet username (ex, jasmith, not jasmith@cedarcrest.edu) and password.

NOTE

  • If you're not sure how to print from your application, take a look at Print from your Mac.

  • If you enter the wrong authentication details, MacBook devices do not show any warning message; your job just will not print.

  • If your job doesn’t print, check the Print Queue dialog. If the print job is there and has the message Held for authentication, click the  icon; then re-enter your login details.

  • Need to assign an account to your print job? You can do that at the printer or via the User Client.
